What do you feel the United States role should be on the Libyan Conflict? The Rebel Uprising and the Validity of the no fly Zone.
The Libya Conflict has brought much attention across the world because it is a large oil supplier to many countries. Unfortunately, Libya also has one of the world’s best known dictators; Muammar Ghadafi. He has been in power of Libya since 1969 and his country is now in a Civil War. Now we question ourselves; why should we play a role in this fight? Well there are many reasons as to why we may want to pick a fight with Muammar Ghadafi such as; He has a history with supporting terrorism, he is killing several innocent civilians, refusing to step down from power, and his country has a large amount of oil supply. These are valid reason to go to war with the Libyan dictator but we have to also look at the cons of going to a war with Libya. These include; increasing the National Debt, fighting on three fronts for countries we are fighting, and the possibilities of losing more American troops. Those are also valid points as to why we shouldn’t go to war with Libya. Now I truly believe that the U.S should stay neutral and out of this fight. As a nation we cannot afford to fight another country. As it is we are fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan and our National debt is an insane amount. If we were to get involved with fighting Libya, then it will cost us money that we do not have. We should be more focused on what is going on America than what is going on in Libya. Yes, it’s a tragedy what is going on in their country, but the U.S should not be interfering at all. WE CANNOT AFFORD IT, NOR CAN WE FIGHT ON ANOTHER FRONT. I also believe that the U.N’s involvement is unnecessary as well. If the U.S had a civil war going, would I like to have the United Nations say “No, you cannot use your military aircraft in this space.”? No, I would not so why would Libya? The fact that the U.S attacked Libya at all was a complete idiotic move that I only hope that we do not make the same mistake of doing. If this continues to excel we shall only see less of our military troop’s home on U.S soil, and a much higher national debt. We should maintain neutrality and focus on what’s going on in the U.S.

The new topic of the monarch blog is the issue around the U.S involvement in the civil war in Libya. The role of our involvement in the civil war in Libya is just support. Not wanting a war to be started between Libya of and the allies. The rebels uprising has caused so much news to be reported from the rebels being bombed during fighting and now the rebels are gaining ground in the war by taking control of some of the costal cites in Libya. Now with one of Gadhafi compounds gone the man is still rebellious toward the involvement of the United States and other allies. The issue of the no fly zone is just for support and protection of civilians and the rebels. Currently the Allied operation is Called Odyssey Dawn. That has B-2 sprit bombers flying sorties back and forth between Libya and then back to the United States. The use of the no fly zone might have made a bigger impact if the fly zone was established early on. So the losses of life would have been lower and the rebels would have no trouble taking out gadhafi’s military guards. That’s my opinion on the situation of the Libya civil war so far.
Cadet Jomar Del Fierro
I feel that the United States should have no involvement with the conflict in Libya. Although it is hard to watch what is going on there, the United States cannot afford to be occupied by war with another country. The Europeans are also involved with Libya’s conflict. The Europeans and the United States worked on the common goal of eliminating Qaddafi’s use of Libyan airspace. I’m pretty sure the Europeans are more than capable of doing that themselves. Even though it’s too late now since United States is already involved, taking out the ability to control planes and jets should make it fair for the rebels who oppose Muammar el-Qaddafi’s. It’s a civil war between the people in the country so I think that they will be able to handle things on their own. And civilians won’t be dying from airstrikes anymore because they took out the thingies. The rebels are trying to overrun Qaddafi but there are also loyalists which are protecting him so it’ll be harder to make sure less people are unharmed. The fly zone is significant because that’s where United States ships are located. If the no fly zone was not established then there would be risk of damaging the ships from Libyan forces.
Cadet Allen.
I think the United States should stay out of the fight, they are a huge suppler of our oil. They’ve created their own civil war. The United States doesn’t have the money or the troops to fight another battle. We are already fighting to huge fights that we should just solve those before we start a new one with something we shouldn’t even get involved with. It’s non of our business I didn’t see them around when we were fighting our civil war, so why should we help them Also, not even if we wanted to help them we couldn’t. Our democracy isn’t something we can hand over to them. The respect of the democracy for the country to hold for the government. The Arab world may see that the Libya world is tainted. The no-fly-zone is about were certain area were aircraft are not permitted to fly. The no-fly-zone was permitted on March 9, 2011. The no-fly-zone was created because of the violence of Col. Muammar el-Qaddafi during the 2011 Libyan uprising; the United Nations approved a no-fly-zone on March 17, 2011. The resolution includes provisions for further actions to prevent attacks on civilian targets. As for the rebels they are getting kicked out of Libya by Col. Muammar el-Qaddafi, as he kicked them out he was firing rockets and shells to make them retreat to a town called Brega. The rebels revolution isn’t turning out to be the greatest.
The U.S. has its name rubbed all up in the situation in Libya. From the proposal of a no-flight zone over Libya to the rumors of the U.S. backing the rebels. I believe the U.S. should handle its own problems before it tries to handle other countries problems. Libya and the rest of the world know how to handle themselves and the U.S. doesn’t need to be involved until the conflict endangers its national security. Every country has its rebels and the ones in Libya are no different from the ones in China. I think that the rebel uprising is going to continue until the people of Libya get what they want which is Qaddafi out of office. I believe that implication of a no-flight zone on Libya is valid to the extent of Qaddafi’s inability of using air support to injure or kill its citizens. Any government that poses a threat to its own people does not have the right rule them anymore. The United Nations has already made its decision on how to handle Libya by allowing the Eastern Allies to take strategic military actions. I believe that Qaddafi is soon to be out of power and in a helpless bind; he has dug his own grave and will soon pay for it.

The United States role on the Libyan Conflict should be to help them, there’s no point in letting rebels, who are innocent people die because of this man Mommar Gadhafi who refuses to step down. Moammar Gadhafi is looked at to be unfit for leadership. He has been accused of killing his own people to prolong his rule. If we were in Libya’s shoes and they were in ours we’d want them to intervene and help us .The United States should help the Libyan people. But I don’t see why the other countries should be before taking action, but then again they could have their reasons. America should be involved in helping to dethrone Gadhafi. I understand that when we were in civil war we were not helped by any other countries, but is it best to let innocent people die and let this man rule? I think not! Or to let him stand down and let them live in peace. So yes, I honestly think we should help. Or maybe we should just stay out of their business and let them handle themselves, who really knows what to do except God. But something has to be done.

As of right now libya is mmajor problem right now to America because we get our oil supply from that country. But to end this problem, President Obama should talk to the dictator of libya who is Muammar Ghadafi. But the problem is that Obama tried to talk to them about making a treaty but thet decided not cooperate. So the president had to send military forces over there. And the major problem is the rebels; because of them there is no more fly zones. So my suggestion to this major issue is that Muammar Ghadafi immediatley needs to talk to the people of Libya to stop this crisis, because this changing alot of things around the world. But Ghadafi has to try to stop the rebels from taking over certain parts of Libya. The fly zone? well that is the last piece of the puzzle of this big dilemma, they killed so many people in that country. And some injured and they shut down the no fly zone and secured all of them with anti-air guns, so that means if a plane or jet tries to land on them areas they will be shot down immediatly. And they somehow they have got dangerous weapons. They are even using propane cannisters for bombs.
Cadet Kucherka(Kuchuga)
The U.S. and Libya, two countries and two leaders; one who is trying to promote peace and one who will not step down after over 40 years of being in power. What more could come to our world. My views on this topic have it's limits. I believe that our government should be careful in what it decides to do. We are already have enough with Iraq so we put more strain on ourselves even though our economy is already in a hole. What do you think another war will do? It will actually do MORE damage than help. The no-fly zone is okay I guess. If we have ships there and do not want them attacked then it is wise to put the no-fly zone in effect. The Rebel Uprising is good for the country of Libya, it gives those who have a sense of change gives them the will to fight their own battle, but we should not interfere...too much.

Hey guys I’m in ISS right now,Yeah I'm so bad right. And so bored that I decided to kill some time and do this blog. Okay so Libya is getting worse everyday that passes by. For decades it has been one of the most oppressed countries in the world. With the rise of democracy in third world nations, is it wrong for them to want the unalienable rights we have here? They want a better quality of life just like anyone else. Here we can be like Lafferty and say our leader barrack Obama is stupid. We can protest without worrying about being shot by our nations military. In Libya it is the complete opposite, any opposition risks death. Ghadafi is a killer that has been in power entirely too long, and these innocent people have been oppressed for way too long. Civilians have found the voice inside them to speak up and say enough is enough, and I agree completely. Ghadafi on the other hand will never share my opinion.
The country now is in the middle of a civil war. It is Ghadafi against innocent fed up civilians who call themselves the Rebels. They have no end game, no organized plan, and no one who is in charge, but they do have a purpose. They are pursuing freedom, something we already have. The reality of the situation is that without the use of military action he is not going anywhere. There is no way the rebels can do this one there own. Its like when Swann and Sgt. Griep wrestled, we all knew Swann wasn’t going to win, and here we all know the rebels won’t win. The imposition of the no fly zone levels the playing field in my opinion. Think about it is it really a fair fight? Without the no fly zone the rebels wouldn’t stand a chance. They are out gunned and out number. There would be even more people dead if there wasn’t the no fly zone.
I say the no fly zone is extremely valid; in fact I think we should have done it sooner. What role should we play on this? We’re already in this, we’ve sent our f-15 out on air strikes, so lets be in this to win this. Although the leadership is in the hands of the French and British I think the United States leadership could more effectively handle this situation. We should lead this thing. We take out Ghadafi, allow there people to govern themselves, leave, tell the French and British to help them govern, say we helped you let me get cheap oil! Of course it’s not that easy but I mean what good happens without our country, without out us this will only drag on and on. Many say there is no reason for us to be over there, that we should mind our own business. We have our own problems yes, but we are the leading nation. One of the most powerful, why shouldn’t we help prevents a dictator from killing innocent people? It won’t just be us over there we’ll have the support along with the assistance of NATO so I say yes we should help. Well the day is almost over now so I’m going to stop writing now. Ghadafi die. The end.
Cadet Kiara Scott
The United is a country thousands of miles away from Libya and we should remain so. We should not have ANY troops over in Libya nor should we be attacking Libya. America has this philosophy that if we have it to help then we should. This philosophy is not very effective, and the overall conflict is, we do not have it to help. America is in debt and the more troops, firearms, planes and missiles we send to Libya, the deeper in debt America will sink. This is a civil war between the LIBYAN people and the LIBYAN government. America should have no involvement in this conflict. The United States should not involve themselves in the rebel uprisings. This may sound childish, however, when there were riots and/ uprisings in America, or any other country for that matter, Libya did not spend their money and rush over to the other country to aid. I also believe that America does not have the right to enforce a ‘no fly zone’ in another country on another continent. I understand that the cause behind the ‘no fly zone’ is to preserve Libyan lives. However, America is not the dictator of Libya, Gaddhafi is, and if he truly wants to fly his fighter jets over the rebel controlled areas, he can, and he will. Otherwise he will find another more cruel and gruesome tactic to destroy his people. America has fought with Libya before and we won. The United States invading the Libyan country is going to do nothing more but provoke another bombing (against America) and most likely, another war. I think America needs to pull out of Libya now, and continue focus on rebuilding the economy and extracting the remainder of the troop from the Middle East before many lives are unnecessarily lost.
Cadet Peters,
I believe we have a good reason to fight Libya but, I also think we don’t. Libya is one of our major oil producers and we don’t need to start conflict with them when there is commotion happening over there already with the United Nations. If we want to continue to get our oil from Libya maybe it would be best if we just left them alone and let the other people who are there now take care of it. I just want all wars to end but I know it probably won’t with what’s going on now, and since we have war going on now in Afghanistan we don’t need to add more on the list. The more commotion there is the more of our citizens we lose and this is not good. Obama said ““It is U.S. policy that Qaddafi needs to go”, I agree with him because if it wasn’t for Qaddafi we most likely wouldn’t be in Libya fighting and worrying about one of our biggest oil producing countries. The NATO headquarters has come to a (n) agreement to separate the political and military leadership of the Libyan air campaign.
Cadet 2ndLt Will
What do you feel the United States role should be on the Libyan Conflict?
I believe that the United States should not have a role in the upcoming war. The United States just keeps putting its self into more debt by helping other countries and fighting wars. We can not even win the 'wars' within our own people. Yet Obama wants to try and stop those in other countries. We can not feed and house our own people but we must do that for others. The United States should keeps its nose out of places it does not belong. The fact that the only thing Libya has to offer is oil, but that did not seem to stop Obama from declaring war.
The Rebel Uprising and the Validity of the no fly Zone.
The Rebel uprising was predicted by the son of Gaddafi. The United Nations (UN) has decided to impose a no fly zone over Libya. It could cause the west over one billion dollars if it continues in the months to come. “Zack Cooper, a senior analyst at the Center for Strategic and Budgetary Assessments, the initial cost of eliminating Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi's air defenses was likely to be between $400 million and $800 million.” The UN has also established a patrol to ensure that the procedures are being followed to the letter. The patrol has been going on for less than a week and the U.S military does not yet have the official cost figures, but I have no doubt the price will be astounding.
Cadet Diaz
I believe that the U.S. should have not participated with the conflict in Libya because what is happening in Libya is their own problem. The U.S. shoud have kept themselves neutrual they should have not gone helping out the rebels wanting to get out Gaddafi. The U.S. should have made a better decision instead of going and attack Libya. There are many problems in the U.S. right now and they want some more? The problems there are is the gas prices going up, and lost of money by the war in Iraq, and I still don't know the reason why that war started in the first place. The econmy is really bad and the national dept is really high and now they want to spend on more and that is going to hurt even more the economy. Libya has been our source for oil and now having problems with them is hard to get oil from them and that is why the gas prices went up. I guess that the no-fly zone on Libya is good because the government want to take care of their people from the sky. Not just the U.S. have attacked Libya other countries have attacked Libya too like U.K. and France, from the U.S. and U.K. they fired at least 110 Tomahawk cruise missiles, amid air strikes by French planes that were followed by the US bombing of a major Libyan airfield. I hope this war ends soon and there could be peace in Libya and no more wars to happen in the future with any of the other countries.
Cadet Talbot
As a student, it is hard to answer the questions on how I feel about what America is doing in Libya & the validity of the no-fly zone they’ve created. Other than the fact that we need oil and Libya can provide us with it, I know next to nothing on the matter. I did research the topic ,however, and found myself on rather confusing grounds. In some ways I find the actions taken against the Libyan government completely reasonable. If it will save innocent peoples’ lives, I’m all for it. Still, it completely goes against our constitution & in some ways I feel it is none of our business what goes on overseas. The no-fly zone, however, is another topic in itself. Our government is trying to control something that we may not be able to control. As they continue to build the no-fly zone, they also build stress on any relationship, weather financial or political, that may have ever been possible in the future. We can never know if we’ll need Libya as an ally if we get into any disputes later on down the road. These views I express are entirely my opinion and I don’t wish to be bias towards anyone. Thank you.
Cadet Horsley, Colton
What do you feel the United States role should be on the Libyan Conflict?
The Rebel Uprising and the Validity of the no fly Zone
The Libya Conflict of the Rebels Uprising vs. the Libyan Government, and the Validity of the NO fly zone has brought much attention to the world. Libya also has one of the world’s best known dictators; “Col. Muammar el-Qaddafi,” who seized power in 1969. And which now his country is at Civil War. There is that one question. Should the United States have a role in the Conflict? If so, what should the role of the United States be in the Conflict? Well, Knowing Muammar el-Qaddafi, and his history of supporting terrorism, killing civilians, refusing to step down from power, and his country has a large amount of oil supply. I personal feel that there is a role. It just picking the side you chose to go with. I feel that the role for the United States in the Libyan Conflict is to help/lead the Rebels in the Uprising against the Libyan government. I say this cause of two things. One, Muammar el-Qaddafi has been in power to long. And two, knowing how the United States was once a Rebellion country against the Kingdom of Great Britain, in the American Revolutionary War.
But then again, “to every war you go into, there will be cons. Even if we were to gained victory, the enemy still has gained some victory over you,” Said Sun Tzu, the Famous war strategist of his times.
In which we all know that there will be cons if we go to a war with Libya. And an example is the possibilities of losing more American troops. German government bonds rose after the United Nations Security Council authorized the imposition of a no-fly zone over Libya, in which cause send oil prices to leap higher and stoking investors’ demand for assets perceived as being the safest.
I say, JUST SEND ME OVER SO I CAN TAKE OUT Muammar el-Qaddafi. So that no troop will dead.
Cadet Jenkins
What do you feel the United States role should be on the Libyan Conflict?
I think that we should try to help Libya by giving aid to the wounded civilians. I believe that we should not be in this fight playing a violent part. I think that we have done enough as it is. In the Constitution it says that we shall not aid any overthrow of a government in any way. I think we should keep our Navy there with a few Hospital ships and some Cruisers to guard them. I do believe in the no fly zone. No one should kill their own civilians with their military just to keep them afraid and inside. I think we have done enough damage to the military targets that we were most focused on. Now we should try to balance this out with doing more good. I also believe that we should not help the rebels in any way because that could trigger a domino effect. If you look back in history you will see that Col. Qaddafi over threw the old government with a military coup so how do we know that this won’t happen again? Also, if we start doing more harm than good it could cause the Libyan Military to strike back at the NATO forces or our own ships around the Tripoli harbor.
Cadet Girard
The united states should definitely, in my opinion, should control the no fly zone over Libya. We've done a good job on enforcing this so far, why leave it to NATO. Most nations have agreed to leave the no fly zone to NATO, but other countries, such as France and turkey disagree. The do not believe that the conflict in Libya should be left to NATO. The no fly zone over part of Libya is an brilliant plan for keeping civilians safe from Qaddafi's air strikes. But what about his ground force's? He still has the capability to control his country and kill the rebel forces. I say that we should go into Libya and take control of the situation. Once we have Qaddafi step down from his position, Libya should be fine. The rebels should be able to restore order and peace to Libya. Leave it to the people to elect a new leader and all that other stuff. Once Libya is back to its normal state, the oil refineries should be fully functional. It may be a civil war in Libya, but it's our duty as America to to save those who can't save themselves.
CADET HAHA..(chelsea Lafferty)
There is no denying that there is a very big problem in Libya. But a bigger issue that is being brought up in America is why are we getting involved in all of the commotion? Well, while there are good reasons, like the fact that Muammar Ghadafi supports terrorism and is killing innocent people, I do not see a reason for us to get into all of this conflict. The only thing that honestly that comes out of there that we actually need is oil. Libya, while not all of its people are wrong, a majority are. My question is why now do they want our help? On September 11, 2001 a very tragic day in American history, the Libyan people cheered and clapped at the fact that we had been hit. It is mind boggling to me that in there time of need they want us but in our time of need they were no where to be found. Not that they could have done much for us, but it is still a fact. I understand that they really cannot help themselves in a time like this and I am not a cold hearted person but I just cannot grasp the fact that we are willing to potentially put our country in danger to help a country who, not in a million years, would ever want our help.
Now, on a different note, I think that it is great that there is a rebel uprising. They are finally waking up and saying, hey we are sick of this and want a voice! That to me shows that they want things to change in there country and they are willing to put there lives on the line to get the freedom that they want but they have done it in the wrong way. That is why there is a No fly zone. To me, this isn’t such a bad idea, it helps everyone out. But, at the same time it makes it hard for other people to help them out. I see where Obama is coming from, wanting to help those in need, but I do not think it was a great idea helping out a country where the leader supports terrorism and really doesn’t like American views.
Cadet Anderson.
President Barak Obama stated that “I“It is U.S. policy that Qaddafi needs to go.” Obama says that we have many tools, in which we can use for this, yes, including out military. Khaled El-Sayeh, Spokesmen for the rebel military claims that they have been giving our miliaty leaders coordinates for the airstrikes. He says that they give us the location that needs to be bombed. However our military commanders have repeated multiple times that they are not communicating with the Libyan Rebels. Mr. Sayeh states that there is no Western Military Service training the rebels, however he would love to welcome any help he can receive. Acording to Sayeh they are working to organize their ranks so that they might include specialized military officers, so that they might be able to attack Qaddafi’s forces. As of now nothing has come together which would make that work. The rebels are starting to have trouble. While they returned from Ajdabiya, they only had one camander at the check point. He was trying to line the rebels into columns for attack and nearly falls off the truck hes standing on. He tells them he understands that a lot of them are not military, but they have to rush. The Prime Minister of Britain says the responsibility fort the No Fly Zone will be transferred to the NATO. France objects to that. They say that it isn’t them that has taken responsibility until now.
Cadet 2nd Lt. Leon
I have done research and have (for the most part) kept up with the news about Col. Gaddafi. So I am aware of what a horrible and cruel leader he is. What the people of Libya have had to endure is just not right. Anybody who supports him and his antics is absolutely foolish in my opinion. I support what the rebels are doing 100% and applaud them for taking the initiative to get rid of Gaddafi. Some may say, “Oh, it’s not our country. So why worry about it?” However, what these people fail to realize is that what’s going on in Libya also affects our country, America. For example, two words…gas prices. If the rebels are trying to make their country better by getting rid of a devil, then why not help them. They can’t do it on their own. Regardless, of where an individual may be from, we’re all humans at the end of the day. And I believe that in life, we should try to help one another. Also, even though, different countries separate us, we still all share the same planet. So technically, if one country is failing then eventually others will begin to fail in some way as well. It’s a domino effect. There have been previous situations where I think America should have minded their business, but this is not one of them. As far as the no flight zones go, I don’t fully understand that concept. I researched it and the CNN website pretty much said that establishing no flight zones in Libya, means that the US is not allowed to fly planes above Libya territory. If this is true, then I don’t get why Obama and NATO would want to do that. Instead, wouldn’t we want to prevent Col. Gaddafi from using HIS military’s planes to bomb his people. How can we (the U.S.) possibly go into this conflict without “Air Power”?? Like I said before, it makes no sense to me. So if I have misinterpreted the situation wrong and the website was incorrect, then somebody please shed some light on what really is going on as far as this is concerned. If I’m right, then I say, “Invalid!” to the no fly zone.
In my opinion the United States has no right to be in the country Libya. I think the no fly zone should be reconsidered since it is their war they are fighting, if it was the other way around we wouldn’t want another country snooping around in our business. I think this war is going to have a very BIG impact on the world since a lot of countries get there oil from Libya. I understand what Obama is trying to do, sneak democracy in there by helping out the Rebels to get freedom, but again it is their war. They need to try to fight this battle and truthfully I don’t think they are going to win this war. I mean one of the most powerful dictators, Muammer Ghadafi, is in charge. The big man! He has been in power since 1969 and he isn’t going down without a fight but I just suppose how you see it and how you think it’s going to play out. Muammer Ghadafi is a big supporter of terrorism and is killing a lot of innocents that were in the wrong place at the wrong time. I just honestly don’t think this war is going to end very soon, and if it does well…the Libyan people are sure in a lot of trouble.
What do you feel the United States role should be on the Libyan Conflict? I think the role of the United States in the Libyan conflict should be to help the rebels. The Libyan Conflict has brought a lot of attention to the world because of its large oil supply. Muammar Ghadafi has been in power of Libya since 1969 and his country is now in a Civil War. Now why do we need to help the rebels, obviously there are many reasons. Some of them are that Muammar Ghadafi has a history with supporting terrorism, he is killing several innocent civilians, refusing to step down from power, and his country has a large amount of oil supply. Also if the rebels get into power it will be easier to bargain and deal with a republic, but we also got to look at what will have to look at the cons of war. This includes; increasing the National Debt, fighting on three fronts, and the lose more American troops. But I still think that America should fight in Libya or at least give some arms to the rebels to help them top defend themselves and regain there country. So whatever we do we need to choose fast before something comes and bites us in the butt.
C/SSgt Matthew Lafferty
Our topic for the recent blog is what the United States’ involvement should be in the civil war going on in Libya. I feel like the USA should be support for the rebels who are only looking for democracy in their country. We also have a right to get involved in this situation because Libya is one of our main oil suppliers. I think we should help them because their government is out to get them using any means necessary because the dictator Muammar el-Qaddafi refuses to step down. Since the government is against the rebels I feel like it is our moral obligation to help them because we would want their help if our country ever got to that same point. In my opinion it very valid to have a no fly zone for Libya so that way Qaddafi can’t attack innocent people by air strikes. I think that as long as the US is actually helping the cause then it is fine that we get involved. Everyone should have a right to freedom and to have government for the people, by the people. In conclusion, I am all for the US being over in Libya as long as it helping and not causing more problems. I think we should get involved once we are asked and we shouldn’t just go shoving our noses in the problem if it is not necessary.

I feel like we (The United States) should take the rebels side of the conflict and help the rebels with the civil war over Libya. And if Muammar Ghadafi still stays in Power then we will have to fight but if there is another person that comes to office he or she will be our ally so it all depends on who comes to office if we are going to fight or not. But I do feel like we should supply and help the rebels in any way possible especially with weapons so the people can protect themselves from these civil attacks.I believe we should keep control of this no fly one. Because we don’t know if they will bomb or just attack another country or not. And we also don’t know or want to chance them attacking a naval ship. I also feel that we should try to

Alright so I just read up on an article and listened to this song by rise against that definitely changed my mind about the role America should play in this chaos. We're in major debt, our economy sucks shooting missiles isn’t free. American blood shed isn't worth the price to pay for a fight that isn’t our own. There is no plan no strategy or an exit strategy. Is the fact that it’s morally correct to help the helpless a good enough reason to jump into this? What I said the whole take lead kill Ghadafi, help them govern that’s going to take more than air strikes. It will take ground troops to fight Ghadafis army, and the price of more American lives, more American bloodshed. Freedom is not free. Let’s worry about Afghanistan, Let France and Britain take the lead and jump into the Libyan conflict when need be. I know this sounds bad, but what would we gain from this? Is the satisfaction of liberating another country good enough? On a scale I think the cons outweigh the pros. I don’t know that America can afford this at this time. The right thing to do is help, but of course at this time we need to help ourselves. Doing the right thing is a lot easier said than done. We have to face reality. We may have a better military, the best nation, but we are in serious debt. If we go to war it will cost the American people. Do we really want that, just because it’s the right thing to do? So many Americans are struggling right now, and this will only make it worse. Should have pulled a Washington(neutrality act), but its too late for that. Eventually I have a feeling we will be in Libya leading or not. Just another though, from a different view. Okay I'm done forreal this time. The end. Ghadafi die.

I cannot agree with what we are doing in Libya and either can our government. There’s a lot of pressure on Obama, he is facing sharp criticism from Democrats as well as Republicans over the Libyan conflict. I disagree with what he is doing as well but then again I feel like America is being too hard on him. With all the decision making and pressure, I think he is just trying too look at the overall view too see what’s best. With this he seems too make the wrong decisions anyway. I know when running a country there is no time for mistakes, but we should all cut him some slack. I feel like we should stay out of the conflict with Libya. We cant even help ourselves better yet another country. We have so much other stuff too be worried about like oil, gas, etc. We don’t have money for this. We are putting are troops endanger for what reason? May I ask because to me we are putting them endanger for no apparent reason at all. The no fly zone I think is good because our ships are over there, and we cant afford for Libya forces to damage our ships.

The “civil conflict” in Libya was bound to quickly escalate into an international event. I have been following the news closely for many reasons and I feel I have a strong grasp on what is going on in this area of the world right now. Libya provides a lot of crude oil (also known as gasoline) to countries including the United States. The country is dictated by a man named Col. Muammar el-Qaddafi who seized power from the true government over forty years ago. Forty years is a long time to be ruled, especially by someone who is not fit to be a ruler. The United States itself once ran bombing missions in Libya to kill this man because of the atrocities he committed against his own citizens. Someone who doesn’t even take care of his own cannot be put in such a position of leadership and power. He cannot be trusted with leading a country because if they amounted enough military force, or even worse yet nuclear weapons, they could potentially strike the match that lights the fire that will be world war three. The United Nations made the decision to set the no-fly zone over parts of Libya and they also started the bombing sorties and tomahawk cruise missile launches, this wasn’t an American decision contrary to popular belief. As of right now our country cannot afford the rise in oil prices, or the possibility of fighting another war on a third front. We still have conflicts raging in Iraq and Afghanistan, I say raging because I come from a military household, and we know there are still people there and there are still people giving up their lives there for what is right. I believe we should help to end the rule of the colonel, but we also need to look out for ourselves the cost of life and money right now can be paid, and will gladly be paid to help protect the innocent, but needs to be avoided at all costs.

The United States has been at war on two different definitive international fronts and on an endless number of undefined domestic fronts for the past decade. Involving ourselves in another conflict is a bad idea economically, is a toss-up in foreign affairs, and is a socially acceptable idea if we go in to assist the civilian population is securing security and a better quality of life. No matter what we do, we will be involved in Libya's civil war, but the role we decide to play is a broad variable that can control and manipulate in our favor. Personally, I believe we should act as a moderator and monitor the two factions and allow the situation to further play itself out before we further involve ourselves and only further ourselves if the situation approaches an extreme that imminently endangers their populous (ex. genocide). I feel that we must be neutral towards the rebel uprising because this situation is very similar to Nicaragua in 1982. I think the validity of the No Fly Zone is questionable because it is Libya's civil war and so long as the Libyan government does not air strike civilians, I feel they should be able to use air strikes. Although I feel we a mediators reserve the right to shoot down any aircraft that attempt to attack our Fifth Fleet.
